(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) – Over 60 Guest Ambassadors at the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA) voted to join Teamsters Local 481 in an NLRB election, marking a major victory for workers organizing for a stronger voice on the job.
Guest Ambassadors play an important role in the visitor experience at SDZWA. Their responsibilities include providing guest service, event support, and responding to guest inquiries.
The victory comes as organizing momentum continues to grow at the Zoo and Safari Park, where workers are standing together to win Union representation and fight for better wages, benefits, and working conditions
Guest Ambassadors join a growing number of SDZWA employees who have organized to join Local 481 this year, including Registrars and Veterinary Technicians.
“We stood united during this election,” said Guest Ambassador Leigh Anne Menard. “We are going to stay united as we negotiate with the Zoo to join the existing Teamsters contract.”
Teamsters Local 481 represents approximately 1,800 workers at the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, including employees in retail, concessions, wildlife care, and horticulture. This year, workers across the organization have been organizing to join the Union and win a contract. Registrars at SDZWA recently joined the local as well.
The Guest Ambassadors’ election victory is another step toward building a stronger, more unified workforce at SDZWA.
Teamsters Local 481 represents 4,000 members in the San Diego area building supply, automotive, UPS and at the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park. For more information, go to www.teamsters481.org
