Sysco Teamsters Ratify Landmark Contract, Winning Major Wage Increases and Protecting Workers’ Rights

Nearly 500 Teamsters secure one of the strongest contracts in their history after a three-day strike, setting a new standard for Sysco workers nationwide

(LOS ANGELES, Calif.) Nearly 500 members of Teamsters Locals 630 and 848 have ratified a historic contract with Sysco, securing significant wage increases and protecting longstanding workers’ rights after a three-day strike against the multibillion-dollar food distribution company.

The new agreement marks one of the strongest contracts in the union’s history, delivering major economic gains while preserving members’ time-honored rights and establishing a major benchmark for the food distribution industry.

“This is Teamster power. Our members stood up to a multibillion-dollar corporation and won one of the strongest contracts in their history,” said Lou Villalvazo, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 630. “We secured significant wage increases, protected rights we’ve held for generations and sent a message to corporations across the country that Teamsters don’t back down.”

“Our members showed incredible strength and solidarity throughout this fight, and their determination made this historic contract possible,” said Eric Tate, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 848. “This agreement belongs to the hardworking men and women who stood on those picket lines and never lost sight of what they were fighting for. They earned every piece of this contract. Now it’s time to get back to doing what we do best: serving our customers, supporting our communities and showing the value of Teamster labor every single day.”

“I’ve worked at Sysco for 40 years, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished together,” said Betty Jones, Sysco office worker and Teamsters member. “This contract is a victory for every one of us, but it’s also a victory for the workers who will come after us. We showed that when Teamsters stand united, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.”

“This victory belongs to every single member who stood strong and refused to give up,” said Andrew Ramirez, 21-year Sysco employee and Teamsters shop steward. “We knew what we were fighting for, and we knew we had each other’s backs. We stood together on the picket lines, supported our union brothers and sisters and showed what being a Teamster is all about. Now we have a contract we can be proud of.”

The nearly 500 Sysco Teamsters represented by Locals 630 and 848 include warehouse workers, office workers and equipment mechanics who play a critical role in Sysco’s food distribution operations. These workers ensure restaurants and other food service businesses throughout Southern California receive the products they need to serve their customers.
